That has been set to Never for a few weeks now but I still get the problem. Xp had no problems at all with the hard drive and at the time I was dual booting xp and 7 and when I went to 7 it would not work I then used Control Panel > Device Manager > properties > Policies, and unchecked the "Enable write caching on the device". I've never encountered this or ever heard of it happening. click here now

I'll agree that the HDD in the caddy slot would probably need more power at boot-time, which (according to Harry) is when Windows would TRY to initialize all internal devices at Hard Drive Keeps Disappearing Windows 7 However, no issues in Linux would indicate Windows issue, not power anyway... 65W is not enough, period. Not the answer you're looking for? SSDs fail. Fortunately, I was eventually able to get a reliable backup, so at least I wasn't terrified of losing valuable data. Don't really know with a board that old, though.

This migh not work for all problems listed here but it did fix it for me. I can, however, unplug things like USB mice, USB HDDs/thumbdrives, etc and see what happens.
